Another thing to see in the area is call Gas Domes.  These are some strange bubbling mud pots.  Its not geothermic, since the mud and bubbles are cold, not hot.

While on another 4X4 outing we came across the remains of a off roader that did not fair so well about 7 miles from anywhere.  Mike had to prove his mastery over the remains of the poor dead 4X4.

There is another spot to visit called the Lost City.  It is just a place the people have made hundreds of stacks of stones on a hillside.  This one is the off road duck.  While we were at the Lost City we found a quick Geocache also.

The night time entertainment included the usual campfire, but out in the desert you have to step it up a bit with things like spud canons, fire works and the "Chimney."  The guys that are desert regulars built this 16 foot tall, plywood tower.  It is propped up and 3-4 shovels full of campfire coals are put under it in a small trench.  After about 20-30 minutes, that baby ignites and burns big and bright.

There is nothing like have a quality family "Hallmark" moment in the desert.

Even though you put the coals in at the bottom it starts on fire at the top and burns to the ground eventually.  We burned a Chimney both Friday and Saturday nights.  It is pretty wild, makes the standard campfire seem pretty tame now.

We had a great first off road desert experience with a bunch a great friends.  We'll be back again another time.  Maybe next time we'll bring kites to fly in the strong winds that can come up out there.
