Day 5

The next day we headed out for Yellowstone National Park.  We decided to stay in the small town of West Yellowstone, just outside the west entrance.  Since we were coming from the south entrance from Tetons, we had to drive through a section of the park to get there.  This took us by the Old Faithful section.  We managed to find a parking spot with the truck and camper and spent a few hours in this area.  Below is an image of the atrium of the Old Faithful Lodge.  This old lodge was built with timbers and has a very rustic, but cozy feeling to it.

The main things to see in YNP is the geothermal items throughout the park.  All over are hot springs, geysers, mud pots, etc.

The colors in the hot springs are based on the temp of the water.  The bluer the water, the hotter the temp.  The other bright colors you find are there because of the different bacteria the grow in the slightly cooler waters.

Our Timing was just right to catch the Riverside Geyser going off.  It blasts about every nine hours, and we liked it because it is in the banks of the Firehole River that runs through the area and its water and spray shoot out into the river.

Of course we sat with the other thousands and watched good Old Faithful blow off some steam.

This would be our first bear sighting on the trip, you can see they are pretty used to people in these national parks.  Through our trips, I have always taken photos of Jake with the bears we find.  I think I have enough to make just a slide show of these alone.
