Day 4

The next day the sun was shining more so we stopped to see how the old Moulton Barn looked in different light.

We also stopped to look around the main square area of the town of Jackson, WY.  This is a pretty neat town that is based on outdoors sports like fishing, skiing, rafting, hunting, etc.  It is similar to many towns near very scenic places like Moab, Ut, Mammoth Lakes, CA, Sedona & Page, AZ.  The central town square has a antler arch at each of its 4 corners.

We met Bigfoot at a shop in Jackson.  He said the wages were not that great, but he gets to river raft all summer and ski all winter.  Its funny, my camera has a face recognition feature the puts a box around the faces it detects on the little screen on the camera.  When I took this image, the camera did not recognize any of the 4 actual faces but instead put boxes around Bigfoot's nipples???

In town is a well know, very old saloon called the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar.  The bar stools are all saddles and it is decorated with a ton of carvings and cowboy stuff.  Pretty neat place, worth a look around.

I have always liked these full size bronze statues you find now and then.  This one reminded me of one we took a photo of at Sedona.

Again, with the sun shining we were able to get more brighter images of the Tetons.

That afternoon we headed down to the Snake River to do some Kayaking with the new inflatables we brought along.  We met up with some others kayaking at the boat launch and made arrangements with the to share rides from the launch and get out points so neither of us would have to hitch hike back.  We launched just below the damn at Jackson lake, so I guess this is the very start of the mighty Snake River.

I had purchased a dray bag that is meant to be able to take pictures through it with your camera.  It is soft clear plastic, but the problem came in to play if the plastic was not taught across the lens of the camera or got water on it.  As we were paddling down river a bald eagle flew over and landed in the river right near us.  I did not know an eagle would do this but it just sat there in the water up to its chest.

In the Ox Bow Bend area along the Snake River we paddled up to a moose having a snack in the shallow water.  She did not even acknowledge we were there, for the 20 minutes or so we hung around.  At one point, Jake and I paddled within 20-30 feet of her.

The others that were kayaking took this image for us and e-mailed, thanks Julie

After kayaking on the river, we took the advice of our friends Pat and Cindy and put the boats in on String Lake.  This alpine lake is very pretty and the water is clear to at least 15-20 feet deep.

With the dry bag on the camera, I am able to take pictures under water.  Here are a bunch of the fish that were swimming under us.  They were all about 2 feet long.
