After leaving NYC, we headed down to Washington DC.  We stayed at Cherry Hill Campground about 1/2 hour north of the center of DC.  from there it was really easy to take the metro into town for sight seeing.

Here are my images of the capital building.

The rotunda dome.

Around the base of the dome is this mural depicting the start of the colonies.  It was supposed to be a carved relief, by they ran out of money, so it is just painted to look very 3D, pretty good job.

This is the Ulysses S Grant statue across the street from the Capital.  There are a lot of statues and memorials around DC, but this one is one of the most amazing.  There is another half, similar to what is shown below.

For our touring of DC we chose to to the Gray Line buses that allow you to hop on and off at any of their stops.  A worker at the campground told us about the old post office building.  It is a great place to get a higher view of DC without getting reservations and waiting for ever to go up into the Washington Monument.

This is the Old Post Office building, we also used it for our lunch breaks twice since it was a much cheaper place for food then the main tourist areas.
