After Jamestown we jumped ahead 170 years to Yorktown. Here we visited another living history site of revolutionary war times.

They are pretty good at recruiting new troops for the cause. I think basic training will take awhile.

This guy was demonstrating how the troops fed themselves. Each tent of 6 soldiers got a fire hole from a trench like in the image. They had to cook their own "stew" with salted meats and rock hard dried breads.

Jake got to help demostrate firing a mortar. They showed the steps and then fired blanks.

Everyone's ears rang for quite awhile after this.

For the complete education, Lori had to teach the kids how to smoke, since Virginia settlements were all about the super cash crop, tobacco. You can't say we don't teach our kids the important things in life. LOL

This is our campsite near Jamestown and about 15 minutes from Williamsburg. We stayed in a city owned campground right on the James River.
